After the rush of the holidays is over, tax season will be just around the corner. Many of us do not prepare our own taxes and have to rely on tax software or skilled tax preparers in order to get the job done.

It is important to remember that you remain liable for the accuracy of your returns even if you have someone else prepare your taxes for you. An innocent mistake can result in large fines and even criminal charges, especially if the tax error results in a larger refund or reduced tax liability.
