Authorities dub UT bank robbers as the ‘Honey Bun Bandits’

FBI agents and Salt Lake City police officers are now calling a pair of Utah bank robbers the ‘Honey Bun Bandits.’

Authorities say that the bank robbers recently hit a Zions Bank on 1420 S. 200 West and left a package which they claimed was a bomb.

The bomb turned out to be a box of Mrs. Freshley’s Honey Buns wrapped in blue Christmas paper with snowmen painted on it, according to FBI agents.

Authorities say that the pastry toting robbers should still be considered armed and dangerous. The men did not injure anyone during Monday’s robbery but scared bank employees and customers by pointing guns at them.

The men were wearing ski masks and hoods. One robbery was around 6 feet tall and the other was around 5’8. The shorter man appeared to be white or white Hispanic. Video stills of the taller robber indicate that he has darker skin.

The Herald Extra Reports that Utah FBI agents are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the Honey Bun Bandits.

“The FBI continues to work with the Salt Lake City Police Department to solve this case,” an FBI spokesman said. “The public is advised not to approach either of these individuals and asked to call in tips to the FBI.”
