Salt Lake City Pornography Lawyer

Child Pornography Defense · Avoid Sex Offender Registry

Imagine what would happen if by simply typing the words "cocaine" into Google, you could make a bag of cocaine appear. That's what happens every day with child pornography on the Internet. Simple curiosity can get people in trouble. Sometimes it's the ease of obtaining this kind of illegal material that leads people into dangerous waters.

Whether it was one nude picture, a dozen or hundreds, once you've been charged with possession of child pornography, you face the possibility of time in jail and could be branded as a registered sex offender for life.

At the law offices of Greg Smith and Associates, our Salt Lake City pornography lawyers have a strong track record of successful outcomes in sex crime cases. Our lead attorneys have prosecutorial experience, and one has trained police officers.

Child Pornography Charges

>

We make sure no client faces the powerful arm of the law without an equally powerful defense. We represent people facing criminal charges of:

Sometimes people get busted for child porn because somebody else downloaded images onto their computer or a computer virus downloaded the illegal material. If someone downloaded illegal images onto your computer, it's best to replace the hard drive. Deleting the files is not adequate protection because the images are still encrypted on the hard drive.

A good rule of thumb is never to download pornography because you cannot tell the age of the model. A "young woman" may be under 18 years old, technically a "child."

Other Online Sex Crimes

We defend clients charged with other online sex crimes as well, including online solicitation of a minor (which may be called importuning if the person is 13 or under) in social media, chat rooms or via instant messaging. Soliciting a minor may cause law enforcement to target you as an online predator. Actually meeting the person may result in pedophile-related charges.

Nowhere are people more free to lie about their identity that online. Entire departments exist to track people engaged in soliciting a minor. Making plans for sex with a person you have only met online is one of the riskiest behaviors you can engage in.

Problems With Violations of Sex Offender Registration Requirements

If you are required to register as a sex offender, you face a number of requirements that must be completed in a timely way. It's easy to run into problems when trying to meet these requirements and then to find yourself in trouble with the law.

If you've been arrested on suspicion of violating sex offender registration requirements, talk with one of our criminal defense lawyers. We may be able to negotiate on your behalf to minimize the consequences.
